What Are Flexible Dentures?

They are the more recent of the dental materials available in clear and several gum and tooth colours. They are tissue borne like acrylic partials. The flexibility and strength allow the dentures to be made much thinner than acrylic dentures. There is no preparation needed for the natural teeth. The denture can be made with any of the materials: clear, tooth coloured or pink acrylic.

Flexible Dentures Can Bridge the Gaps Left by Missing Teeth

• Flexible dentures are removable dentures that replace the teeth that need replacement. We now offer tooth-coloured clasps on partials which are much more esthetic, especially for the upper teeth, an obvious smile zone.
• Partials include treatment partials which are all plastic and have a preferred use as a temporary. They are less expensive and not really as strong or stable as regular flexible dentures. They are useful when one or several teeth are lost and better treatment has to be postponed due to healing, cost, time available, and so on.
• They are very well received.

Complete Dentures

We provide complete dentures which are used to replace missing teeth for people with no remaining teeth. Complete dentures are usually made from plastic (acrylic). We provide our patients with two types of complete dentures: conventional dentures and immediate dentures. A conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed. Waiting a good eight weeks before fitting dentures will give your gums time to better heal from the extractions, and also allow for shrinkage that will occur in the bony ridge during this period. Immediate dentures are made in advance and are placed right after the teeth have been removed. Immediate dentures usually require some adjustments during the first six months after installment. However, the greatest advantage to immediate dentures is the fact that you will emerge from our clinic with a complete set of teeth. At our clinic our dental care professionals consult with our patients and help them understand and decide which treatment is best suited for them.

The BPS System

Implant-Supported Dentures

A complete denture rests on the gums and jaw ridge, and over the years that ridge slowly resorbs, so a lower denture in particular can become loose. Attaching the denture to two or more dental implants holds it firmly in place, stops it lifting when you eat or speak, and preserves the bone that the implants sit in. The denture can still be taken out for cleaning, or it can be made as a fixed, implant-supported set of teeth. If your denture is loose, this is worth discussing at your review appointment.

Living With a New Denture

A new denture takes a little getting used to. Speech and chewing feel different for the first few weeks, and small sore spots are common while the tissues settle; these are easily relieved by adjusting the denture, so do not stop wearing it before your review. Start with soft food cut into small pieces, chew on both sides at once, and build up gradually. Clean the denture over a basin of water every day with a denture brush and a non-abrasive denture paste, and leave it out overnight so the gums can rest.
